INSTAMOISTSHIELD AQUA II

InstaMoistshield AQUA II is an aqueous based moisture barrier film coating system. Exposure of drug to environmental moisture may lead to degradation of drug. In such cases a moisture barrier coating is of great value to improve the shelf life of drug.

Traditionally, moisture barrier coatings use water-insoluble materials to inhibit the transmission of water vapour across the coating film.  Commonly used materials include the Methacrylic Acid Copolymers, Stearic Acid (in combination with HPMC), Ethyl Cellulose and Shellac.  These materials have the property of inhibiting moisture vapour transmission but being water insoluble, also tend to increase disintegration times and reduce dissolution rates.  This reduces their usefulness to those situations where the required degree of protection can be obtained without compromising bio-availability.

However, InstaMoistshield AQUA II Coating Systems overcome these problems. It is a blend of polymers, plasticizers, pigments, opacifiers and other excipients which could be used with aqueous or non-aqueous systems to give protection against atmospheric moisture. The recommended weight gain is 4%. The coating does not have any effect on the disintegration or dissolution time of the dosage form.
